\u00a0the day before there had just been a trickle of water.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s not really surprising though, after a day of torrential rain.\u00a0 The main road itself was flooded and water rushed down from the hill behind the house and onto the beach gouging out channels in the sand.<\/p>\n<p>Best of all for the dogs was the water pouring out of the drain in the sea wall.\u00a0\u00a0 This required serious barking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1743.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1758\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1743.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF1743\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1743.jpg 1000w, http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1743-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1743-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two bedraggled but happy dogs returned to the house as we all took courage and crossed our new little river.<\/p>\n<p>Oh yes&#8230;.the Polly Wolly reference.\u00a0\u00a0 A song we used to sing at Scout camp fires, which traces it roots to the 19th century minstrel shows,\u00a0 <em>Polly Wolly Doodle<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 There is a line that came to mind:\u00a0 &#8220;We came to a river and we couldn&#8217;t get across&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1735.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1757\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1735.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF1735\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1735.jpg 1000w, http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1735-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.couttsweb.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSCF1735-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The beach here at Shoremill on the Cromarty Firth is constantly changing, no more so than yesterday when we discovered a little river blocking the route of\u00a0our morning walk;
