href="http://www.buchanobserver.co.uk/news/local-news/new-lease-of-life-for-town-s-reform-monument-1-126899" target="_blank">article from 2009 in the local Peterhead paper, the Buchan Observer, which reported that Peterhead Community Council was investigating development opportunities for the Reform Tower which stands on top of the Meethill overlooking Peterhead Bay. Improved access to the roof, perhaps a camera obscura and a webcam on the top, were among the suggestions being considered at that time. But not much seems to have come from that proposed scheme in the years since 2009. It is a shame that you can not get to the top now. What a view you would have.

But things were always thus. The observatory proposed for the top was never completed when the tower was first built. The Tower was erected on the site of an ancient burial mound by local Whig Party supporter, George Mudie , the foundation stone being laid in 1832 to commemorate the passing of the Reform Act in Parliament which meant that Peterhead became a Parliamentary Burgh and along with the Royal Burghs of Banff, Cullen, Elgin, Inverurie and Kintore became part of the Elgin Group, and entitled the area to one Member of Parliament in the House of Commons in London.

The Tower is such a well know landmark of Peterhead, and I have been trying out various view-points to see if I can get a picture suitable for a future Peterhead calendar. The pictures posted here are all “development opportunities” too. None of them is quite right yet

<a href="http://blog.couttsweb.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/IMG_5933.jpg"
