My brother-in-law Fraser Gill is posting a picture with a sea theme every day on Facebook and is inviting people to join in. I have been doing it now for several days. Yesterday He posted a picture of St Mary’s Lighthouse at Whitley Bay. It is just a mile or so from where he lives.
It is strange how things come together. On the cover of a photographic magazine I have been reading there is the very same lighthouse. I have never taken pictures of that lighthouse, but perhaps I will some day.
My lighthouse subject is Buchan Ness. I was looking for a new angle on my lighthouse the other day and went down to the shore underneath the new prison building at Petehead. As well as the Boddam power station, I notice you could see the Bucha Ness lighthouse way in the distance. You can even spot the bridge linking it to the mainland. I look out my camera….flat battery! Fortunately I had my phone and this picture was taken on the phone. It is amazing the quality you can get nowadays.
I went back yesterday and tried again. This time I climbed up a grassy bank so that the lighthouse would be lit up by the afternoon sun. At that moment a seagull appear and I just managed to click the camera once. I am delighted with the result. A seagull, admiring the view. That’s the picture at the top of this post.
